So I'm not sure. Generally messing with the Registry = bad, but even though the guy in the third link reccommends against it, his explaniation still suggests it might improve things.

If Windows is by default ignoring every other TCP packet it's being sent, that's a bit mental. I guess it a trade-off between throughput and response time. This change will trade throughput for increased response time, therefore lowering your ping, so unless you've got a really suckass connection speed, it'll probably imrpove things, gaming-wise anyway.

Try it, if you don't notice a difference, delete the Reg key again, or change it to the default of 2.

/shrug

I'll be giving it a go. It certainly sounds like it could have a big impact. But it is a trade-off, remember that.

A PC receiving traffic thru TCP (as opposed to UDP) sends acknowledgements to the sending computer to confirm that it has received the last few packets (they're called frames really at this level). If the sending computer doesnt receive an acknowledgement it will assume something went wrong and re-transmit the last few packets. So windows isnt ignoring every other packet, it is being effecient in acknowledging multiple packets simultaneously. This registry setting will remove that efficiency making your PC acknowledge each packet individually.

This will have multiple effects. It will affect ALL network traffic not just games/wow. It will increase your network cpu utilisation and the amount you upload, though its hard to say by how much.

This will probably have a positive impact for people with bad pings. Thats because although generally your network overhead increases it should decrease the amount of latency you get on a bad connection, whether through lost packets or corrupt data.

IF you experience latency due to distance or unreliable connection you may want to try this. Be careful though as it will increase the traffic for EVERYTHING including apps that are having no connection issues.

One last thing - just because the latency number is lower doesn't mean you have a better connection. Ping is a measurement of latency, which is in turn a measurement of speed. Speed is not the same as bandwidth. You can actually increase your speed but lower bandwidth so if you do try this make sure it 'feels' better.

Oh and do a quick registry backup first as well... :)
